History of the Probie’s Buffalo
The history of the Probie’s Buffalo was adopted from the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of San Diego, California, as a tradition for new probies. Each probie is presented with a buffalo upon entering the club and requesting to become a full patch member.
The tradition began during the first confirmation annual of the Buffalo Soldiers M.C. San Diego chapter, when two full patch members from Buffalo Soldiers M.C. Florida rode cross-country from Florida to San Diego. Upon their arrival, they carried a small buffalo mounted on one of their motorcycles.
The riders explained to the President of Buffalo Soldiers M.C. San Diego, Sidney Green, known as “Roostaah,” that because the buffalo successfully completed the journey across the country on the ground, all new probies should carry a buffalo with them until they earn their full patch.
From that moment forward, the buffalo became a symbol of responsibility, commitment, and respect. Each probie is charged with protecting the buffalo at all costs and, once they earn full patch status, passing the buffalo on to the next generation of prospects entering the club.
